Addison Chinn is a graduating senior at Wayne Memorial High School, where she played varsity tennis, served on student council, and volunteered with the Interact Club—a community service club sponsored by the Wayne Rotary. She also volunteered with the local Capuchin Soup Kitchen, made cards for military veterans, and prepared sandwiches for individuals experiencing homelessness.

With a passion for pursuing a career in nursing, Addison has been dually enrolled in high school and the Health Occupation Program at William D. Ford Career Technical Center for the past two years.

“Addison is bright, self-motivated, kind, and a natural leader in my class. It is rare that I find a student so invested in their future endeavors,” shared Angela Ritchie, RN, MSN, Addison’s health occupation instructor.

Addison completed her State of Michigan Nursing Assistant Certification in 2023 and has been selected as a direct admission to the Madonna University Nursing Program, where she will begin her studies in Fall 2024.

All of these accomplishments have been achieved while maintaining a grade point average that ranks her 14th in her class of 273 students, and working an average of 30 hours per week at Phoenix State-Wayne Theater, in Wayne, Michigan.

Addison credits her theater work for advancing her personal and professional growth as well as helping prepare her for a career in healthcare.

"From improving my people skills to teaching me how to handle stressful situations, I’ve discovered that what I’ve learned in the theater is more relevant to nursing than one might think. Being able to take what I’ve learned from working at the theater and integrating it into my future nursing career will help me connect with patients on a deeper level by making them feel heard, understood, and supported during their healthcare journey."
